What is the Bayer "Express Your Simple Win" Creativity Contest?
The Bayer Express your Simple Win Contest is a contest where entrants create a 15-30 second video that creatively expresses your Simple Win. Individuals with diabetes (ages 6-18 years old) can create and upload a Simple Win video to enter the contest. Anyone can watch and vote on the Simple Win video submissions.
What is a Simple Win?
Simple Wins are small, everyday victories you achieve in your life despite having diabetes. Just like Nick, who has learned to live with diabetes and not let it slow him down. With the encouragement and help of his friends and family, he's able to stay healthy and achieve his Simple Wins: writing music, acting and performing.
What do you mean by creatively expressing it?
A Simple Win can be any original idea. Here are some examples: an original song, lyric (such as a poem), drawing, photo, movie or any other creative ideas that expresses your simple win. The options are endless. Your video should show how creative you are!
What is the contest schedule?
- Contest Open: On or about April 13, 2009 – September 20, 2009
- Monthly Video Submission Deadline: 20th of each month
- Judges Voting: 21-23rd of each month
- Public Voting: 24th – 29th of each month
- Monthly Winners Announced: Check the site for updates on monthly winners
- Grand Prize Winners Announced: October 30th, 2009
ELIGIBILITY
Who is eligible to enter the contest?
The Bayer "Express Your Simple Win" Creativity Contest is open only to legal residents of the United States including the District of Columbia (except residents of Massachusetts, Michigan, and Rhode Island) who are between 6 and 18 years of age at time of entry who have been diagnosed with diabetes and are not enrolled in a Federally Subsidized Healthcare Program such as Medicaid, Medicare, SCHIP or TriCare.
Who is NOT eligible to enter the contest?
Individuals who:
- Do not have diabetes.
- Are under the age of 6 or over the age of 18 at the time of entry.
- Individuals who are enrolled in a Federally Subsidized Healthcare Program such as Medicare, Medicaid SCHIP or TriCare.
- Reside in Massachusetts, Michigan, Rhode Island, Puerto Rico or outside of the United States.
- Are employees, officers and directors of Bayer HealthCare ("Sponsor"), Measure2X ("Administrator") and each of their respective parent companies, subsidiaries, corporate affiliates, advertising and promotion agencies, entities engaged in the design and implementation of the Contest, as well as members of the immediate family or same household are not eligible. "Immediate family" means children and siblings of such individuals regardless of where they reside.
Why is this contest only open to people (6-18 years old) with diabetes?
Nick Jonas has teamed up with Bayer Diabetes Care to help young people with juvenile diabetes achieve their simple wins and live their dreams. We've seen this inspiration and hope that Nick Jonas continues to inspire other kids with diabetes and have therefore limited the contest entry age to 6-18.
If I don't have diabetes, can I still participate?
Yes, but not as a contestant. You can view Simple Win video entries on http://contest.nickssimplewins.com anytime. Plus, from the 24th – the 29th of each month you can vote for the monthly winner.
ENTERING THE CONTEST
How Do I Enter the Bayer "Express Your Simple Win" Creativity Contest?
Click here to enter a 15 – 30 second video which expresses your simple win in a creative way.
Follow these simple steps!
- Step 1: Think about how you would creatively express your Simple Win.
- Step 2: Shoot your Simple Win video.
- Step 3: Upload your video (including the title of your video) for a chance to win!
- Step 4: Look for a confirmation email that your video has been approved for entry.
Explicit permission of contestant's parent (or legal guardian) will be required for the valid entry of a contestant under age 18; and if under age 13, parent (or legal guardian) also will be required to complete the Registration Form.
What is the theme of the Bayer "Express Your Simple Win" Creativity Contest?
The theme is "Simple Wins." Simple Wins are small, everyday victories you achieve in your life despite having diabetes. Simple wins in your daily diabetes management can make a big difference over time. What's yours?
RECORDING A VIDEO
How do I make a video?
In order to make a video, the contestant will need a webcam or other digital camera device that can connect to their PC or Mac. All videos must be between 15 - 30 seconds. All videos must feature ORIGINAL content and should showcase just the contestant showcasing their Simple Win.
Start your video by telling us the following:
- First Name and City that you live in
- Tell us what your simple win is and then show us how you creatively express it.
Sing, dance, paint, do a stand-up comedy routine – whatever your Simple Win is, we want to see it! Just be yourself and be creative.
Once recorded and uploaded to the contestant's computer, the contestant can then edit the video(s) using iMovie, Windows Movie Maker, AVID, Final Cut or Adobe Premiere, or other equivalent video editing software (if desired.)

Do I have to have a camcorder to make videos?
No. As explained in the previous question, there are many different devices that can capture digital video. You may also use a webcam (some computers and laptops come with them), which can be easily used utilizing our "Upload a Video" feature.
How do I use my webcam?
You can use the software that came with the webcam and, once the video has been saved as a file, you can upload it here.
VIDEO TIPS & RULES
Use a popular video file format, such as certain versions of AVI, WMV, MOV, and MP4. You need to own the video or have permission from the owner to upload it. All video content must be kid appropriate (rated G or PG only). Files can be up to 100 MB, and be a minimum of 15 seconds and a maximum of 30 seconds in length.
Please remember, only the contestant should appear in the video.
We highly encourage the "entrant" to wear non-branded logo items.
Remember if you are singing a song, the lyrics must be original and the tune must not be subject of a copyright.
UPLOADING A VIDEO
How long should my video be?
Each video should be between 15-30 seconds long.
How large can my video be?
The file-size limit is 100 MB.
Is there a limit to how many videos I can upload?
There is a limit of one contest entry per month for a maximum of six (6) contest entries per person for the entire Contest Period.
What video file formats can I upload?
Use a popular video file format, such as certain versions AVI, WMV, MOV, and MP4.
What should I name my video?
We recommend that you name your video something relating to your Simple Win.
How long are my videos available on nickssimplewins.com?
Videos will stay on the site until October 31, 2009 (approximately)
How do I change or add to the information I entered about my video?
Once you upload a video and it is published on the site, you will not be able to change or add information to your video. So, please be careful when uploading your video.
How do I know who has watched my video?
Nickssimplewins.com does not offer a way to see the specific viewers of your video.
VOTING AND WINNER SELECTION
How does the voting process work?
Team Jonas will select their 3 favorite videos for fans to vote on at the end of each month. Make sure to check back here the 24th to the 29th of each month to vote on your favorite!
One winner will be announced each month. That winner will receive a signed Nick Jonas item and be eligible for the grand prize.
At the end of the contest, (3) grand prize winners will be chosen by Nick and Team Jonas from the selection of monthly winners.
Grand Prize winners will meet Nick Jonas at a destination TBD (domestic or international.) See Official Rules for more details.
What is the voting schedule?

How do I vote?
You can vote for your favorite video 1 time per day during the voting period. To vote for your favorite, simply click on the VOTE box.
How will I know if my video is one of the Top 3 each month?

How are the winners chosen?

How will I know if I am a monthly winner?
If you are a potential winner, you "(if you are age 18) or your parent or legal guardian (if you are under age 18) will be notified by mail and required to complete and return documentation. This documentation includes an Affidavit of Eligibility, a Liability Release and, except where prohibited by law, a Publicity Release.
Other documents will be required including a letter from winner's physician on physician's letterhead confirming that winner has been diagnosed with diabetes.
How will I know if I am a Grand Prize winner?
Winners will be notified on or about October 30, 2009.
